NaOCl causes destruction to the root canal wall and intratubular surface, allowing EDTA to demineralize the exposed underlying dentine and thus reducing the root's mechanical strength. The higher the NaOCl concentration, the greater the effects. Endodontists should follow the modern concept of minimally invasive dentistry and avoid using overly high concentration of NaOCl for the sole purpose of more effective disinfection. This will help prevent root fracture after endodontic treatment.
