The ESE is pleased to introduce its next President-Elect, who will serve from 1st January 2024
until 31st December 2025 becoming President in 2026-27.
Gianluca Gambarini (MD, DDS) is a Full Professor and Head of Endodontics and Restorative
Dentistry at Sapienza, University of Rome. He is Director of the post-graduate (Masters)
programme in Endodontics and is responsible for the clinical programme in Endodontics and
General Health at the Hospital Policlinico Umberto I, Rome. 
 
He has served the ESE since 1999 when he was part of the working group to update ESE
Undergraduate Curriculum Guidelines. He was the Italian Country Representative to the ESE
General Assembly for many years and entered the Executive Board six years ago as Chair of
the Clinical Practice Committee where he led many projects including eight position
statements, activities for professionals and patients and introduced clinical poster and
clinical video prizes during the ESE Biennial Congress. He led numerous symposia during
ESE Biennial Congresses (Digital endodontics, CBCT, AI ) and also took part as a senior expert
in the recent S3 guidelines process. He is an active member of the Italian Society of
Endodontics (SIE) and was former Editor in Chief of the Giornale di Endodonzia, the
official journal (indexed and with Impact Factor) of the SIE.
 
During his career, he has published nearly 200 scientific articles in indexed journals,
developing many original research projects on a range of topics from clinical trials to
experimental evaluation of endodontic materials and techniques, and has contributed to
and edited a number of textbooks. He has been particularly active lecturing and giving
courses worldwide as an invited speaker in all major international endodontic congresses
and many universities. He was also a member for many years of ISO and ANSI-ADA Working
Groups for the standardization of the Endodontic materials. 
 
Outside his academic and ESE duties he appreciates quality food, enjoys cooking, has a
passion for archeology and Roman history. He loves the sea and boating, spending his
holidays with family cruising in the Mediterranean.
