Up to 2006, ESE Presidents organised and hosted the ESE biennial congresses. Following the creation of the federal structure of the ESE in 2001, Gunnar Bergenholtz became the Chair of the Executive Board and in 2006 this role was incorporated into the role of the ESE President. The Congress President position started in 2006 and remained until 2019.
